Rejection

Spontaneously decided to sign up for one of the (many) clubs at my school, as they were doing camping and hiking trip and my friend wanted to go. Not checking my email, I went to the first meeting of the trip and my friend asks "Oh, you got the email too?" I didn't think much of it and told her that I'd wrote the room number down and remembered the date. One of the three teachers running the trip told me after the meeting that there has seemed to be a misunderstanding. She was very apologetic even if it was a mistake on my part, and told me the other teachers agreed if someone were to drop out they'd consider me as the next good option. I am upset, obviously, its the first time in awhile I'd tried something. Conversely, I do think I'm awfully lucky to be in more consideration because of my inability to fully read an email. If that luck does me any good, we'll see. I wonder if being a lucky idiot is any good. Having abundant luck but critically unable to use it intelligently.
