I love makeup, not only because it makes me feel beautiful, not because it's a hobby of mine, not because i feel ugly without it, and not because it makes me feel more feminine.
It's also because I find some aspects of makeup to beautiful and intimate. It's a great way of self-expression an intricate way of seeing others how they want to be seen, how they want to feel, how they think they should look, and what flaws they cover.
What is even more intimate than doing your makeup? Is it getting to know yourself, what you like, how you wanna look, enhancing all the features in your face that you love; your nose, your eyes, lips, jaw, your cheekbones? Whatever it is that you deem the most important about makeup, it's what you want it to be, do it your way, something special about makeup, it's yours, you are in control. That's one of the beauties of makeup, there are no rules.
Personally, I think the most heartfelt and passionate way of doing your makeup is letting someone else do it for you. Being close to one another, feeling the gentle way they hold the brush as it makes contact with your skin, breathing in the air they exhale. And when they finally finish with a smile adorning their face, and you look in the mirror, you see yourself through their eyes. Their perception of your features, what they think is the most beautiful, the lineaments they find the most perfect, the things they highlight.
Makeup is art.
