Happy Easter and Trans Day of Visibility!
As always, WebDev club was on Monday. We're starting to make portfolio sites which is great since I'm currently lacking one. If I want to be an employable web developer, I will need one! On Tuesday I scheduled a meeting with an org member to go over my position. I think I understand now, but I'm still unsure of how to go about my position. On Wednesday, I went to a financial literacy event, which I most definitely needed, as my current budget isn't great. I'm not broke, but I don't think I'm being very intentional with my money. I really need to open up some sort of savings account that I can access much later in life. On Thursday I took the second part of my computing exam. I was super scared that I wasn't going to pass the lab portion, but I was able to power through it and make a 100! I'm so glad that I did well, I was on cloud nine for about an hour.
Additionally, I finally received information on who I'm rooming with this fall. We're in room 423, and I consider 23 to be my lucky number. Unfortunately, I'm quite disappointed. Firstly, my name is technically on the list as my mom used her information since I wasn't old enough to sign a lease. The roommates who I have found information on through LinkedIn are not engineering majors. The apartment I will be living in is close to the engineering campus, which I assumed meant that many new residents would be engineering majors (wrong!). To make matters worse, they're all already friends with each other! I doubt they'd be willing to talk to me, but I could be wrong. Because of this, they haven't reached out to me, but I might reach out to them to introduce myself.
On Friday I received information on my engineering mentor. My mentor is a software engineering manager who works in Tennessee. I will likely message her soon so we can learn about each other. The one problem I've had career-wise is trying to figure out what I want to build. I know that it doesn't need to be something unique, but it needs to be something I'm passionate about and has multiple features. I hope that talking to my mentor can help me streamline my process.
There wasn't much to do on Saturday, I tried my best to relax since I have three exams (all on the same day!) this week. What I will say though is that my university's campus is gorgeous in the spring. I was talking to my roommate, and it turns out she's staying here over the summer. I felt a little strange since I'm going back home, but I shouldn't feel bad.
Also, I have about one month of classes left! I'm a little nervous, but I'm also unsure of how I'm going to pack everything back up and out of my dorm!
Tchau,
