Y2K web n stuffs!!

HAIIII hey hi omg!!

OKOKOK so im gonna jump right in: i was born in 2000 which was when like, social media n stuff wasn't really a thing yet? i mean u had myspace in 2003 but facebook and twitter n stuff didn't really gain traction until years later. here in the netherlands we had hyves which was VERY similar to myspace from what i know and remember. ANYWAYS

i always thought hyves was peak social media, cuz like myspace it offered customisation for literally EVERYTHING u saw on ur screen. fonts, colours, images and even widgets were entirely customisable which was dope??? at least it was a lot less boring than like, "oh, here's a minimalist white page with set fonts and colours where u can only edit ur profile picture and ur banner." idk, the insane customisation is what gave social media like hyves and myspace character. it was always so pleasant to be on.

i rlly don't understand why those types of social media all ended up failing later on, in the early to mid 2010s. personally i would've loved to still be on those, which is also why i'm so insanely glad i stumbled upon this platform!! it fuels my nostalgic y2k soul :3
