im the computer guy in my family, does it have any benefits?? i get a greater say on things, the bad things is that i'm the only one reliable to fix stuff. My brother bricked his pc, do i need to fix it? kinda, do i want to fix it? yeah but i don't really wanna.
my brother uses a usb headphones (apparently you can transmit audio thru usb?????), he pulled with a lot of strenght and the computer ducking bumped hard, he panicked and turned it off, now it doesn't want to turn on, no display or communication through usb.
Apparently the hdmi cable broke but to be fair those little bastards always breaks easily.
so far i tried to switch ram and reset cmos battery, nothing so far. im eating cookies and blogging it off to destress a little.
my mom kinda just gave up, but i really wanna help and potentially save hundreds of dollars in repairs (my parents probably would only take it to repair when half life 3 releases), ill do it because im a computer wizard, do it for the fame, do it to save money, do it to help a homie out, do it to gain endless favors (i hate cleaning dog pee), do it so maybe my mom gives me like 20 dollars to spend on bandcamp or something and lets me get snacks.
but to be honest, the thing i want most is to make my brother install linux just for shits and giggles
But the good things though:
- if the pc screen froze, it means that the pc was still sending an image to the monitor, even if its a static image.
- we just bought a new hdmi cable and the monitor wasn't cooked, tbf i kinda hate that monitor even more now.
- the pc DOES turn on, and the fans DOES spin, and it seems like it sends some kinda signal to hdmi (monitor detects that somethings connected) and usb (it sends energy), but it can't send anything useful and just does nothing.
- It doesn't seem like the rams are the criminals here, althought there's a non-zero chance that something else broke too and i would have to replace both things
anyways.
- nothing seems burned loose or splitted in half.
- resseting the cmos battery does something (it makes it reboot shortly after turning it on on the first time) which means that the motherboard can at least do something
the idea of breaking eletronics and wasting money for nothing makes me a bit anxious
