Soul (poem)

If I open my soul to you

Would you read it like a book

Would you read all the way through

No matter how long it took

Would you dog-ear the best pages

or highlight your favourite passages

Would you laugh at my comedy

And revel in the privilege

The privilege I give to you

By baring my naked soul

Would you hold me for comfort

And try to console

I have a feeling you would

After all, it's in your nature

You'd let me sob in your arms

Loves greatest labour

And I'd do the same for you

Any minute, any hour

But for now, hide me away

In your arms, I will cower
