YAPPING about Ghost

all of this is simply my opinion and im open to other points of view on this stuff !! also this is gonna be so scattered, im just saying shit that comes to mind

I was a huuugggggeeee Ghost fan in like 2021/2022 and like early 2023. I kinda lost interest by the time Phantomime came out. Both that and Impera were kinda iffy for me. They're both good for what they are, but i much preferred the sound of Opus and Infestissumam.

Since I was such a fan not too long ago, I decided to relisten to If You Have Ghost, which is one of if not my favorite release by Ghost. After I relistened I remember just how good Ghost was. I honestly distanced myself from the music because the online fans, especially those on tiktok, were just honestly so insufferable. I hate saying that, but oh my gosh. Pointless debates on whether Ghost was metal, leaking the ghouls faces before their identities were revealed, the entire "drama" with Dew's fanon name changing to Sodo indefinitely (which the entire thing with his name was sooooo pointless). Like it all felt so unfun and like if you didn't have the "right" opinion on the band everyone would be at your neck. And don't get me started on like the edgy fans who made it their entire personality that they were satanists and listened to songs referencing satan, I'm sorry no one really cares that much. I even was kinda an atheistic satanist at one point, now I'm honestly just agnostic, but some of them just give the energy of "heh.. the fact i worship satan scares my family..:)" LIKE IM SORRY ITS KINDA CRINGE JUST BE CASUAL WITH IT PLEEEASSSEE

ANYWAYS I think I went way off track there, but I really really miss their music and just being a big fan of them. I wanted to mainly talk about their early albums, cause hot take, in my opinion they're the better albums.

In my opinion the first two albums, Opus Eponymous and Infestissumam, are the heaviest albums they've released so far, and probably the heaviest they'll get. I love the vocals on these guys, adore the instrumentals, they create suchhhh a mood and I absolutely love it. Genesis is an amazing track off Opus and I feel a lot of people forget their instrumental songs, besides Miasma for obvious reasons.

I know I'm biased with the first two, but I have love for Prequelle and Meliora as well. Prequelle is great, at one point my favorite album from them. And Meliora, a lot of the songs off that album got me into the band, as I'm sure that it got a ton of other people into the music as well. Meliora just was never really my favorite. It has a very different sound, which I really enjoy the variety from each album, but it's not my favorite.

I don't want to say it's overrated, because it's amazing, but I think it caters to a slightly different audience than stuff like Opus did. Which is not a bad thing at all, I actually really like how they do this. They experiment with tons of different genres, each album seemingly more applicable to a different genre than the album before it. It one, gives the band better reach to new listeners, and two gives the already existing listeners such a wide variety. That is one of my favorite things about Ghost. You can never really put their music in a box, which is why I find the debates about whether it is or isn't metal so insanely pointless. They obviously have metal elements, but they've also experimented with soft rock, hard rock, pop rock, pop in general, I would even say some goth sounding stuff, LOTS of genres.

Although I wasn't a big fan of Impera when it first came out, it definitely grew on me. Still not my favorite but it's understandably likeable. I'm excited to see where Ghost will be going with their music, even though I kinda have a feeling I won't be a huge fan.
