I'm not much of an inline skater, but I do use quad skates! My biggest tips are to check how the skates are manufactured (material wise, will help with performance in the long run), to bend your knees (kind of overlooked, but usually I bend my knees until I can't see my toes anymore as a rule of thumb for maximum stability), and to check your wheels (I won't get into it much, but different wheels are made for different terrain and use; i.e. a wheel for outdoor use would be gummier and bigger, but a wheel for indoor use would be smoother and smaller)!
