These cosplays are amazing, especially the first Miku one and the Luka one. I also love the design of these magazine pages. They used to be very "glamourous" years ago... Right now, they have a more "clean" side to them, even magazines about these topics (at least the ones I saw recently). :P
The blog post were i found it from was originally posted in 2012, so its probably from 2009-2012, i wonder if japanese magazines overdecorate their pages like this anymore but they were certainly an era :"3
Yeah... From the early 2000s until at least the mid-'10s, JP magazines were over-decorated. It's mostly because of different design choices to adapt to magazines and such. Headline formats have to be designed differently because of their writing system. They're usually not only big, but colourful and stylised to grab our attention. Especially for niche content like this... they had their own aesthetic.
Nowadays, they're still cute and decorated, but I don't think they're as quaint as they used to be...
