A few of these I'm still playing through so my opinions may change. Also this blog entry contains a few images ooo nice.
1. Insaniquarium Deluxe
This was a computer game I owned when I was younger, one of the few I remember owning on disc alongside stuff like Plants Vs Zombies and the various Humongous Entertainment games. We had the Sims but they weren't technically mine I just got to play them. But back to the topic, Insaniquarium is a game where you feed fish and fight aliens and you do that for four stages of five levels until you reach the boss.
Before hand I had never actually finished this game, I typically played on the family computer so maybe it got uninstalled or when we inevitably upgraded I'd lose my save so I'd always start over and only really get up to the third stage and rarely the fourth. But with this playthrough I did recently I finally beat it, as you can see from the above image I unlocked the bonus adventure which is basically just playing it all over again but with all the pets you unlocked.
Now I should mention that this is a very click heavy game which tired my hand between levels so I typically took breaks. You have to click to feed, click to fight and click to collect the coins and treasures your fish drop because once they reach the bottom they disappear. Later in the game you'll just have tanks like this. Now for feeding I know you can just hold down the mouse to auto-feed but I always defaulted to clicking because I'd have to feed fish on the other side and what if it fell to the bottom before they ate it?
Anyway I'm happy I got to finally beat it, I may end up checking out the bonus adventure but... first I wanna get to some other games.
2. Dialtown: Phone Dating Sim
Yeah you heard that title right, It was on sale when I was buying some other games so.. I figured why not. I enjoy a good visual novel every now and then, my last list like this featured one. This one was okay, I've only really played through a few routes so I didn't finish it yet, you have to play every route to unlock chapter 3 so I'm interested in seeing that.
This game is kind of one of those comedic type dating sims, if you wanted a serious dating sim about phones then this probably isn't the game for you. The plot probably would've tipped you off, you play as a cryptid who's default name is "Phonegingi", but you can change it in-game, who is heavily pregnant and needs to lay their eggs in the dirt of the local fun fair. Yes that's the plot, how does this translate to a dating sim? Well you don't have any money to get into the fun fair and it's Valentine's Day so there's a buy one get one free deal on tickets so you have to trick somebody into paying for them but maybe you'll actually fall in love.
I don't dislike comedic dating sims but parts of the humor in this game weren't all that entertaining to me or kind of made me cringe, I still like it enough to want to see it through tho.
3. Detective Grimoire & Tangle Tower
I'm just going to put these on the same section because they're both short and in the same series, Detective grimoire is a neat little point and click detective game, it reminded me of old flash games I would play on like Newgrounds or whatever random sites I found. It was a nice time waster but I guess it didn't leave much impact on me, I like the art style.
The sequel is a big improvement however, the art style gets an upgrade and the animation for each character is really good, the tower and it's surroundings you explore are very neat and the characters were very fun, I liked some from the previous game but the sequel makes them very memorable. I won't spoil anything but the ending was... something. I don't know if it's a game I'd put on my favorites list but it was neat, I'll definitely check out the recently announced next game when it releases. I always like a good point & click.
4. Sonic Adventure DX
Sonic Adventure could be considered a childhood game for me, I've been playing games for the longest time ever since I was a kid it's really hard to determine what my first game was, could've been an handheld title but Sonic Adventure is definitely one I have the oldest memories of. Ever since I got the steam versions it's been a joy to be able to freely replay it whenever I want and recently I decided to do a new playthrough but with mods installed that transform it back into the dreamcast's look.
It made me realize how unfamiliar I am with the dreamcast version... It'll definitely make for an interesting playthrough to see all the familiar and unfamiliar sights.
Also I just wanna say especially after watching Cybershell's video about SA1 NPC's a few years ago I've really grown to love the style of NPCs in this game. I don't know if I have a definitive opinion on what the best style for humans in Sonic's world is but I kind of just like all the styles, even if people joke that the Unleashed NPCs look like Pixar character so what.
5. Ultrakill
I don't play a lot of shoot games, if I had to choose my favorite I'd say Splatoon. Though I suppose that and Ultrakill are different kinds since Ultrakill is a FPS. I'm still going through this one actually, only really done a few stages. Since I'm using a laptop I decided to play it with my switch controller because trying to use flat keys fast for a game is weirdly difficult for me. Previously I used mostly a PS4 controller if a game felt better with it but I don't have it with me so I'm using the next best thing, and tbh a switch pro controller is very comfy.
Anyway about the game, I do like the music. People talk about it the most and it is good. I also like the aesthetic of it like the stages are fun to jump around in even while trying to avoid enemy fire. Also robots are cool.
That's uh, pretty much all the games I've played recently, I could've added Pizza Tower but I played even less of that so far compared to Ultrakill so maybe next time. Thanks for reading! See ya later.
