Perfect Vermin

I replayed a game called Perfect Vermin the other day.

if you dont want spoilers then i probably would not read the rest of this lol

i found the game on steam because i was looking for short horror games,

Perfect vermin interested me just because of the fact that you went around hitting furniture with a hammer and breaking it, i had never heard of it before so i went in blind

the game's premise seemed super simple at first like, ,, 'go and hit things okay'

and then you hit an object and it shatters into flesh chunks??

a reporter man shows up and tells you to do it again, better and faster

then the game gets sad. you desperately try to hit all the 'flesh furniture' which you identify by the fact that there may be 2 of the same item or an item in a place its not supposed to be/where you wouldnt typically find it

the levels get more absurd and the building's structure changes and warps, finding the  flesh furniture gets more difficult all while the reporter's body degrades and becomes more and more disfigured and he becomes more desperate

at the final level, its clear the reporter is dying. he talks about this in detail and he does not want to die 

but you still need to traverse the now side-ways office building and it gets mor difficult as you plummet downwards towards what was once the walls of the room

you have to break the window to escape and you fall further

the last part of the game has you breaking what appears to be cell-like clumps in a fleshy walkway, which leads to a cutscene in a doctors office in which the reporter discusses his diagnosis with his doctor who urges him to get his affairs in order while the reporter emphasises how he must leave to catch a story in a different part of town, one that he says will change his life.

the last thing he says is "no one will care about my death if i dont prove to them that i lived"

I think about that last line a lot because i think i understand what he means, i have a hope that my art will reach someone in such an impactful way that it proves to them that i exist and that i am able to share part of my thoughts to someone, even if im not there with them
