deathrock appreciation post πŸ•ΈπŸ¦‡πŸ§Ÿ‍♂️

hi to whoever sees this! i've worked really hard in making this blog entry look good, i hope you like it, and i hope this helps someone with finding a new style and music that they like.

what is deathrock?

according to the aesthetics wiki, deathrock fashion is a subtype of goth and punk, the link between them. musically, it takes post punk and adds a somewhat more aggressive sound to it, and it tends to have very expressive and dramatic voices. some deathrock music artists are christian death, horror vacui, 45 grave, specimen and alien sex fiend.Β
but aesthetically, it's a fashion style whose key elements are:

  • deathhawk: a signature hairstyle that takes the mohawk you can see on most punks, but makes it all teased and they leave long sideburns. a lot of deathrockers have this hairstyle.Β
  • lots of accessories, mostly silver jewelry, leather and beads and they use a lot of old school horror and christian imagery.Β
  • ripped fabric, mostly fishnets and stockings.Β
  • dark makeup, the earliest version uses a heavy and dramatic look just like trad goth does, but it's not uncommon to see deathrockers wearing just black eyeshadow and dark lips.Β
  • elements like bats, spiders, black and white stripes, rosaries and zombies
this style is not to be confused with trad goth, horror punk and new romantic, although these are all really similar.Β

my thoughts on it

personally i'm not a deathrocker myself, but i listen to some of the music (i really like scarlet's remains and scary bitches btw) and i love the style so much, i even incorporate it into some of my own outfits. i especially love the looks where they wear neon colors and that fabric that looks like a spiderweb all over their look.Β

i've searched for some deathrock images, here are some of my favorite ones. enjoy!Β

oh, andΒ here you have some bauhausΒ to play while you look at them. that's my favorite bauhaus song, and its harsher sound makes it perfectly fit with deathrock. it's one of the earliest examples of deathrock music (it's a Spotify link btw)Β
