the death of romance

The modern human is living in a dystopian era, we are so far away from becoming a better and more valuable society than in ancient times, if nothing we’re devolving by constantly normalizing a lot of senseless behaviors and negative tendencies in our population.

With the rise of social apps and excessive media consumption, real human connections have become this totally different (and even superficial) concept that isn’t seen as a fundamental thing in life, but rather as something optional that we as a species don’t need to function correctly. The way we now form most of our bonds and maintain them is kind of surreal. One would think there is no harm in the desire of quick and easy relationships (wether these are romantic or not is past the point), but in reality the way we meet people does matter, and truth is we should not be prioritizing online social interactions (of course i’m not saying it’s wrong to socialize and interact with people online, I obviously do this myself by utilizing social media and have met great people, but there is a limit on the reasons and ways one should be doing this).

I also strongly believe romance is dying. Romantic culture has really decreased to an impressively mediocre level.

Why are we creating these horrible (and mistaken) conceptions about love and relationships that end up getting a lot of people hurt? We as a modern society have lost the capacity of empathy, of responsibility and basic decency, because how else could one explain the way people express themselves so horribly about each other, or the way that nobody cares to communicate with their partners anymore. It’s a mutual thing of course, it’s not only women being treated badly in relationships, it’s men, it’s everyone.

Communication is such a basic need for us, people have become so vague in expressing things, maybe this has something to do with the lack of literacy and comprehension skills of the modern age, but whatever it is is causing a complete destruction of our natural ways of interacting / understanding and forming deep and truly meaningful connections with one another.

Of course we have progressed in so many aspects of life, we have better resources, we live in an evolving environment where every day people are trying to improve our quality of life and problem resolutions, and we also have a lot more ways of accessing information (all of which can be used in a variety of ways, including good and bad), but we are now lacking of veracity and humanity, we live connected but in social (and truly romantic) isolation.

Honestly just a thought I felt the need to express, however this shouldn’t be taken as nothing more than my personal opinion formulated on a very boring Saturday night.
