Ok Computer (1997) - Radiohead
8/10
Genre - Alternative / Indie
Favourite Songs - Subterranean Homesick Alien, Exit Music (For A Film), Let Down, Electioneering, No Surprises
Overall a really solid album, although not my favourite genre. Some songs were just not my cup of tea but the entire album is very strong and consistent with the atmosphere it creates overall. The entire album presents what in my opinion is a more lonelier atmosphere. My overall favourite song from this album is Exit Music (For A Film). Whereas my least favourite is Fitter Happier.
The entire consistency of the album to me makes it a really good listen, it’s strong where it needs to be and toned it down where required. Exit Music is a really good example of this.
I also like the tone on the guitar, quite specifically in Lucky during the intro.
Follow The Leader (1998) - Korn (Currently Listening To)
7/10
Genre - Nu Metal
Favourite Songs - Freak On A Leash, Children of the Korn, B.B.K, All In the Family, Seed
Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavoured Water (2000) - Limp Bizkit (Currently Listening To)
Flyleaf (2005) - Flyleaf
6/10
Genre - Alternative Metal / Nu Metal / Christian Rock
Favourite Songs - I’m So Sick, Fully Alive, Cassie, All Around Me
Honestly I’ve had mixed opinions on this album since I first started listening to it. I adore the tones on the guitar in I’m So Sick and Fully Alive in particular, i don’t play guitar so I don’t really know the terms but I really dig the scratchiness and how raw it sounds in parts.
Some songs I just really didn’t enjoy but I believe it’s just the mixing specifically with the lyrics. However, I do really overall enjoy the whole energy of the album.
The acoustic versions included within the album are also quite a nice more toned down listen of some of the songs in the album. The acoustic version of All Around Me is very very nice tbh.
People do talk about overall the religious messages supposedly pushed within the album but I don’t really care for it - I personally have different interpretations other then the more likely religious undertone with I’m So Sick but I haven’t looked into it much.
Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys (2010) - My Chemical Romance
6/10 - 7/10 depending on how I’m feeling
Genre - Alternative / Rock
Favourite Songs - Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na), Party Poison, S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W, Summertime, The Kids From Yesterday
Such a fun album to listen to like low-key. For me this will always be a summertime album. It’s really chaotically energetic with a lot of the songs but also is aware of where to tone it down with songs like Kids From Yesterday. It’s very upbeat compared to other works by MCR but that doesn’t mean it’s bad in any kind of way.
Only a lower score in compared to other albums as I have to be in a specific kind of mood to listen to it - but by no means is it bad as I’ve stated. S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W and Summertime are two very strong songs paired together on this album and work very well together imo.
The world building for this album is also really cool - I like the canon. The music videos and Killjoy comics are very good and make the album so much better to listen to as it fleshes out the story more.
It’s not really full songs that bring the album down a bit for me just some parts of specific ones just don’t scratch the itch in my brain just right.
