Why I Hate AI (A Rant)

I was reading this article a little bit ago on the so-called "ChatGPT of music" and I don't really know how to feel.

As an artist, it just feels weird. It's cool, I guess, but AI cannot and will not replace real artists in my opinion. There's no feeling behind it, it feels uncanny and soulless.

No offense to the people who created this program, but I feel like it's almost contributing to the lack of creativity I've seen lately. I also think it contributes to the idea that you need "talent" to create something meaningful, when that's... not how it works. Like at all. I know that wasn't their intention, but this has the potential to have the same consequences as AI art.

Anyway that's just something I've been thinking about since I read this article. I don't like AI, I think it is making things for not just academics more challenging (as I've seen AI writings being passed off as actual credible information, which to someone trying to do research, is really annoying), but also for creatives in general. I've seen so many AI crochet patterns its not even funny. Then there's the problem of AI art being stolen. Even just looking up regular things on Google images is yielding AI generated images. Or quick results being completely inaccurate due to AI generation. It's shitty, and environmentally harmful as well.

Generative AI can have its uses, but it can't replace human work like some people want it to. Anyway, rant over.

I completely get the sentiment of frustration. Idk why we do not get mind numbing jobs to be automatized instead of applying Ai to the creative department.
Honestly, it gets concerning when we delegate the thinking to a machine. It feels like our brains are going to end up covered in rust, but most people will not probably go through that.
The answer "I use it to save time" can be deceiving sometimes. Some non native speakers love ChatGPT because it helps them to redact following the etiquette of the language better. But in other cases it is inexcusable, like "Saving time for what? You do not do this for a living".
Convenience can kill, that is for sure

im not worried, when i see ai generated thumbnails on youtube i immediately know the uploader is lazy and the video is probably bad quality, no matter how nice-looking or attention-grabbing the image itself is. its just a new kind of clickbait, your brain learns to gloss over it.

when i read an article and i notice its talking in a bizarre way, using too many connecting phrases ('furthermore' 'in addition' 'moreover') in ways that a normal human never would, i know its either written by a bot or an idiot, so i stop reading.

i cant really be mad about it 'stealing art' either bc, 1. photography did not kill the art of painting and 2. if your art is on the internet, its already free game imo.
like, if a human could download the image and edit it themselves without your consent, then you cant really be mad at a bot for doing the same.
and like you say, ai art is always missing that 'human spark of creativity' anyway, the demand for human artists is never going to go away.
also, with the amount of ai art out there now, its only a matter of time before those neural networks end up getting their own art fed back to them, resulting in a kind of 'inbreeding' which will end up polluting their datasets and making them useless. yknow, like how a copy of a copy of a copy always loses quality with each iteration.

my only problems with generative AI are that
1. it can convincingly fake photographs and audio, which is a legitimate concern in this climate of disinformation.
2. people dont seem to realise that the way AI works is literally by trapping and enslaving spiritual/demonic entities lol

crochet patterns though? let the machines have at em! thats not something they can really fuck up, and theyre not spreading misinformation with it either.

Well for me, i like the AI stuff. But just as something cool that computers can do and dont really consider them real music.
What annoys me is the bunch of people that thinks that bc they prompted the AI to do something, they instantly become artist and deserve recognition.

Just keep making AI covers, but please, stop insisting on your "creativity"
