What was your most favorite experience from the original MySpace?

If you're a MySpace alumni, as I am, what was your fav experience that made you rush over to create a page here?

Here's my fav. I was a singer/songwriter at the time. And, the blogs, bulletins & forums were great places to connect with like minded people. So, having that ability to connect with other musicians mixed with the connectivity of the internet sent some awesome musicians my way.

We decided to try to make music across the interwebs and created a 'cyber band'. We called ourselves 'The Ventures'. We simply sent tracks back and forth to build our songs. They would send me a music track and I would add some of my own instrumentation, vocals, and lyrics. I made it a point to build lyrics around whatever they named their track and the vibe & energy of the music. It was an amazing magical experience.

I have since lost track with mostly all of them once we all started migraiting over to FaceBook. One was from Canada (Winterskull), another from New Jersey (Gabre Meden), another from Ohio (Gork) and one from Pennsylvania (Michael JK). Gabre Meden was the one I originally met and who built most of these connections. I later found out one of them, Gork, was murdered years afterwards...that broke my heart. I also had the opportunity to collab with a musical couple at the time (they have since split) from Kentucky; Elixxir & Mina Fedora. All of these collabs later led to a local rap artist, Max Bundles, asking me to provide vocals and a spoken word to his title track for his album he was about to drop.

I've loosley stayed in touch, up through today, with the guitarist from Pennsylvania, Michael JK. We had latered started our own 'Cyberband' project called 'Skylight Paper' and it was one of my favs. His unique melodic guitar riffs always inspired me to write unique poetic lyrics and melodies. It was short lived...life gets busy and people move on, but I still cherish those songs.

I drifted away from doing music because the local music scene was so toxic it turned me off and demotivated me. Then I discovered flow arts & fire dancing and found I loved performing as a flow arts dancer more.

While I still love the creative process of writing and recording music, the actual act of performing music to a crowd never did much for me. It was always more drawn to the creative process of hearing the music in my head and building it layer by layer until it became a real.

Anyways, seeing another iteration of MySpace pop up brought back so many good memories of making music with people around the US and Canada..people whom I've never met in person, but I made a life long soul connection through the sharing and merging of our art.

Looking forward to reading about your special memories in the comments. I hope you'll share them with me and others who may stumble upon this blog.

If interested, below are some of my fav collaborative tracks with the artists mentioned above (all tracks are free downloads by the way) And, one of the tracks ( click here ) from the Skylight Paper Project with Michael JK from Pennsylvania :

I have not since I've moved on. The content I create now is flow arts and cinematography skits/shorts. Haven't found any groups under those tags yet. But more people are joining so looking forward to finding some other creators in those categories. I only create record sound tracks for my cinematography shirts now
