Jennifer y Needy han sido las mejores amigas desde niñas, siempre están juntas y son inseparables; sin embargo, son completamente opuestos: Jennifer es la chica hermosa y popular, mientras que Needy es... su leal mejor amiga. Una noche, ellas deciden ir a un pequeño concierto de la banda indie Low Shoulder, sin imaginar que esa noche sería el principio de una pesadilla.

Después de ese día, Needy comienza a notar que Jennifer ha comenzado a actuar... muy extraño.

Jennifer and Needy have been best friends since childhood, always together and inseparable; however, they are complete opposites: Jennifer is the beautiful and popular girl, while Needy is... her loyal best friend. One night, they decide to go to a small concert by the indie band Low Shoulder, without imagining that that night would be the beginning of a nightmare.

After that day, Needy starts to notice that Jennifer has begun to act... very strangely.

¿Por qué debería verla?

Why should I watch it?

Podría decirse que Jennifer's Body es una típica película estadounidense de los años 2000 (y en realidad sí lo es), sin embargo, a mi parecer tiene una complejidad más allá de ese estereotipo. Existe la interpretación (la cual yo comparto) de que la intensa amistad entre Jennifer y Needy es más que sólo una amistad. Estos personajes son queer coded ("un conjunto de características y comportamientos que sugieren a la audiencia que un personaje es queer" de acuerdo a Arlen Molina en su artículo "Queer coding y Villanxs Disney") y la cinta se puede ver no sólo como una historia típica de amistad, traición y celos, sino una historia de un amor obsesivo, tóxico y posesivo. El año en que salió Jennifer's Body fue un tiempo difícil para la representación explícita LGBTQ+ y existen muchas películas y series con personajes queer coded de estos años (un ejemplo claro sería Dean Winchester de la serie Supernatural). Yo la recomiendo porque pienso que es de esas representaciones no tan obvias y no tan simples, ya que Jennifer y Needy son personajes complejos y con su respectiva oscuridad. ¡Es de mis películas favoritas y es una experiencia única el verla!

It could be said that Jennifer's Body is a typical American movie from the 2000s (and it is). However, in my opinion, it has a complexity beyond that stereotype. There is an interpretation (which I share) that the intense friendship between Jennifer and Needy is more than just a friendship. These characters are queer-coded ("a set of characteristics and behaviors that suggest to the audience that a character is queer" according to Arlen Molina in their article "Queer coding and Disney Villains"), and the film can be seen not only as a typical story of friendship, betrayal, and jealousy, but also as a story of obsessive, toxic and possessive love. The year Jennifer's Body was released, it was a difficult time for explicit LGBTQ+ representation, and there are many movies and series with queer-coded characters from these years (a clear example would be Dean Winchester from the series Supernatural). I recommend it because I think it's one of those not-so-obvious and not-so-simple representations, as Jennifer and Needy are complex characters with their respective darkness. It's one of my favorite movies, and it's a unique experience to watch it!
