throughout popular media we get shown a weird idealistic image of the spartans as the ultimate militaristic nation with the most disciplined army in the history of man which is a very stupid and fraudulent lie which is spread by hollywood and other media.
the only reasons why we as society see spartans which such a high image is because they were probably the only people who actually trained their infantry and had a standing army in a time period where standing armies were non existent where soldiers would be levied with little training and very little equipment which was their main advantage but throughout time this was also slowly stripped of them as macedonians started conquering half the known world with their phalanx army invented by philip the macedonian, father of alexander the great.
if the spartans were truly "super warriors" than they wouldn't have been crushed by the greek coalition against their sphere of influence finally their annexation by the romans which removed all remnants of spartan hegemony in greece once and for all during the annexation of greece and the rest of its colonies(as shown in the image i put below which the romans are on the left and the greek coalition is on the left with their very outdated phalanx formation against the revolutionary roman testudo which is much more versatile)
