my little review of acts of desperation by megan nolan :)

first of all, i would just like to say i love her writing style and the way she depicts the intense and contradictory emotions of her narrator in the most raw and unflinching way possible.

i'm not eloquent enough to put most of my thoughts of this book into words, but all i know is that i identified immensely. and the parts where i didn't gave me so much insight and perspective. much of the subject matter you've probably heard similarly from a friend, or your older sister, which makes you feel a certain kind of provocation into the casualty of how men traumatize women.

i feel like most people are so quick to judge someone who stays in an abusive or toxic relationship, but this book forces you to look at and reassess those judgements. it also challenges many of today's feminist rhetorics with wit and hidden intellect, which i absolutely loved.

the narrative feels scarily personal and makes you wince. it's so honest, heart-wrenching, paradoxical, and piercing. you'll quite literally live inside of the words on the pages. it's really hard not to find a part of yourself in this one, and yet the precision in which it cuts you is impressive.

PLSSS READ IT, IT'S SO GOOD
