gray
you started out blue in that month of june
tip-tapping the glass all summer afternoon
you turned orange and white,
a pink-love sunrise
set your midnight song free
then your shade turned to green
often times you'd turn red,
my fragile nerves, you fed
don't you remember what i said?
won't you be another color instead?
duty called on that dreary day
there in that parking lot where i turned gray
the rain clouds watched as i heard you say,
"we had a good run."
oh, but you were my sun
