A journal entry to you --

I lay on the concrete strip at our home - where I so often saw you sprawled on your back with a content purr. I looked up at the sky and tried to imagine why this was your favourite spot

I feel the hot sun on my face and my belly. I feel a gentle breeze carried through the backyard. The concrete is warm.

When I close my eyes, I can hear all the birds singing for you. Did you hear them too? Did you wish you could catch the birds between your teeth and bring them to my door?

“I’m so proud of you,” I would say, “What a wonderful gift you’ve brought me.”

As the sun pushes the shade over your favourite spot, I hope you can come and lie in the sun with me one last time before I have to say goodbye to you.

I know you’re not gone. I can still feel you here.
