Finding food to eat as a picky eater can be hard.. even worse when u r type 1 diabetic! Yes, t1ds can eat whatever they want as long as they dose for it, but to keep my sugars in range its still helpful to eat healthy
(note: when i talk about carbs, i am talking about net carbs. net carbs are the total carbohydrate with fibre and sugar alcohols subtracted, as those two do not need insulin to be absorbed. not every t1d counts net carbs, soem count all carbs. listen to whatever ur endo says, not som rando on the net)
unsweetened milk substitute (almond milk, oat, coconut, soy, etc.)
srsly! it helps so much. 1 cup of milk is like 15 carbs, but one cup of say, almond milk is 1 carb!!! oat is the highest with one cup being 8 carbs. so its super helpful when i wanna make hot chocolate, am baking something, or to pour in my tea or coffee
lily's chocolate bars
they taste just like regular chocolate.. but for one whole bar it is only 13 carbs (compared to reg. chocolate bars, which can be around 30 carbs). all the times i've had them my sugars have yet to spike!!
president choice peanut butter fudge smoothie bar
these taste actyally so good.. better than som ice creams i've had pre-diagnosis tbh. they're 12 carbs each and the size of a regular ice cream bar. it says smoothie bar but its just like a fancier fudgesicle. they don't rly taste like peanut butter to me,, they just taste like chocolate. rly good dessert!!!!
greens(!!!!!) ((hear me out!!!!!))
guys... i know.... ew... but srsly! find one, just one that u really like. for me, it's cucumber with ranch. they can be peas or celery or like, lettuce or something. they r so useful for when u r too lazy to inject or carb count but ure hungry. also! cucumber is very hydrating.. good for summer
liquid drink mixes
theyr like those little squeeze bottle thingz.. i got one that's from kool-aid, i got a strawberry lemonade one, and a coupl'a others. theyr really nice cos pre-diagnosis i looved juice and fruit punches, so they'r almost the same thing. u gotta mix them after u squirt them in ur water or else it gets rly concentrated at the bottom...
pepperoni sticks
they r so good cos theyre similar to green foods, no carbs and easy to eat!!!!
whole grain goldfish
ok these ones have more carbs but something i think is really important when u have type1 diabetes is to remember u are still allowed to eat normal snacks!!! and u shouldn't feel like u need to go on a super strict low-carb diet all the time. buying some snacks that any1 else would buy reminds me of this. don't restrict urself from eating the food u like!!!
simply protein snack bars
they haveĀ a couple of different flavours and they're the best alternate to granola bars i've found. not very sugar-y but still they taste sweet (yipee!!!!)
note: remember u are human ; and its ok to have high-carb food sometimes. treats r allowed, do not torture urself with low-carb diet all the time!!! u gotta stay happy man, mental is just as important as physical (something i still work on too)
anyways yeah! there's probably more stuff that I am forgetting at the moment, but oh well!! my biggest piece of advice is to keep eating stuff u like, just maybe not as much, and add replacements where u can (like, i used to eat white bread but now i eat whole grain, less carbs and doesn't change much to me).
