Sookee parece una doncella cualquiera, contratada para servirle a la heredera japonesa de una gran fortuna, Hideko. ¿Por dónde comenzar? La producción es simplemente espectacular e impecable; el vestuario, el guión, los escenarios, cada toma. La película logra transmitir maravillosamente la intimidad y conexión de las protagonistas, al igual que con las escenas explícitas. En lo personal, The Handmaiden dejó una marca en mí ya que no solo trata el tema del lesbiansimo, sino lo ligó con el tema de la opresión a la mujer y la violencia de género y sexual que implica; no sólo es una historia de amor, sino es de liberación. La recomiendo en su totalidad, aunque sí es importante tener en cuenta que por tratar estos temas fuertes, la cinta incluye escenas de naturaleza sexual y violenta, por lo que no es apta para todo público.

Where do I begin? The production is simply spectacular and flawless; the costumes, the script, the settings, every shot. The film wonderfully conveys the intimacy and connection of the protagonists, as well as with the explicit scenes. Personally, The Handmaiden left a mark on me because it not only addresses the theme of lesbianism but also links it with the theme of oppression of women, gender and the sexual violence it implies; it's not just a love story, it's a story of liberation. I recommend it wholeheartedly, although it's important to note that because it deals with these strong themes, the film includes scenes of sexual and violent nature, so it's not suitable for all audiences.
