book talk: goodreads giveaways

anyone else here familiar with goodreads giveaways? if you're not, here's the gist: authors and publishers can pay to host a giveaway on the site, offering either physical copies of books or kindle editions, users will enter and then at the end date winners are randomly chosen to receive one of the copies. if you win, you get an email congratulating you, and either the kindle book is immediately added to your amazon account or the giveaway host ships you the physical book. pretty standard giveaway procedures.

it's really cool if you're super into books because a lot of the giveaways are for just barely releasing or even unreleased books, and i always think it's just fun to potentially get a book for free (because i love books and i really love free things).

i've only known about it for a few days, but i've been entering a lot of giveaways, and i've become aware of so many releasing books that interest me that i probably never would have known about otherwise. one thing that is annoying is that when you enter a giveaway, it auto-adds the book to your tbr list, and you're not allowed to remove it or you become ineligible to win, so i'm probably gonna have to regularly go back and clear out the books i'm not as interested in once their giveaways have ended. on the bright side though, it's been quelling the desire to constantly buy new books, which has been eating away at me for a while now.

most surprisingly, though, is that i already won one?!? i need to make this clear: i started entering these giveaways literally two days ago. of course i was hoping i would win something quickly, but i wasn't actually expecting it. hell, i've seen people talk about entering them for years with no wins. but lo and behold, at 1-something-o-clock last night, bam! congratulations, you have won a goodreads giveaway! DAMN! THAT WAS FAST!!

in case anyone's curious, the book is called say hello to my little friend by jennine capo crucet. it's not what i'd typically read, but the premise just sounded really outrageous (there's a better word that i'm forgeting....) and that caught my attention. i won one of 25 copies, with 6845 entries overall. it seems promising, so hopefully i'll enjoy it! my plan is to read and review it as soon as possible once it ships. in the meantime, i'll continue to read the books i already own, and of course, continue to enter more giveaways.

also, if you're seeing this, and you've won a giveaway before, i'd love to know what book it was!
