It's finally here people- the beginning of our expedition! I'll be diving into what we found during our first steps into the camp in my next blog entry, but for now I'd like to get into what we saw while on the way...
So if you're from Fort Diggory, you've probably heard ghost stories about the haunted "Corbitt House" in the woods- but if you're tuning in from somewhere else, in short, it's this creepy old house where (supposedly) a bunch of people died & a bunch of kids went missing. Most people assume that the house got demolished or collapsed or something, and I did to, until our exploration group stumbled upon it in the forest near camp! We have no idea how it's still standing, the place seriously looked like it could blow over at any moment, but somehow, it's survived.
Photo from inside.
The opportunity to explore Fort Diggory's very own haunted house was WAY too good to pass up, so we took a detour from Camp Lucky Loch to take a peek inside. It was less wrecked than expected, but still in seriously poor condition- the walls were covered in dripping dark stains from the ceiling, there were rat corpses around every corner, the master bedroom window was shattered & the bed upturned, and I don't even want to get into the horrid state of the basement. We got down there through the Egress window (which looks as if someone thoroughly struggled through it), and it seemed like a wall had been torn down with this weird, giant knife. Whoever did that definitely shouldn't have- the other end was not a pretty sight. On the bright side, I can add human teeth to my bone collection!
We also found a bunch of beer stashed away in a closet. It seems like someone was using this place to stash their stuff for a long time, given how much of it there is. I think I remember something about Erin Beagle (one of our founding members) using an abandoned house like this in the woods- who knew it was the Corbitt house!
The only thing not trashed at all was a table setting in the dining room. Everything else was on its side except for a single seat, with a neat tableware set in front of it. It honestly looked like someone was about to walk in and start eating off of it, it was so neat. I wanted to take a closer look at the area since it was so strangely perfect, but I got a chill down my spine when I reached out my hand, so I decided against disturbing any of it.
We also found some pages from what we assume was a journal of sorts in pretty good condition- no luck finding the book they belong to, though. Maybe someone took it out of the house?
I know this isn't what we were looking for, but finding it was a very happy surprise!! Once again, I'll get into some of our initial findings in the camp in my next post, but to tide you all over I'll give you a little sneak peek right now:
