Feb '24 - Albums (first time listens) 💜

Hiiii here's my first end of the month list I wanna start doing these to ramble on about music (and movies) I hope anyone reading enjoys and hopefully you'll get some new music recs out of it! Here's all the albums I listened to for the first time this last month!

💜 Wings Of Joy - Cranes 💜

• gothic rock, ethereal wave

• fav songs: Beautiful Sadness, Living and Breathing, Sixth of May

"And I'm as happy as can be inside a place I thought I'd never see, and I'll just stay here like a dream where love is never ever what it seems"

Cranes is one of Robert Smith's favorite bands and they're quickly becoming one of mine!! :) This is by far my favorite album by them so far, it's just so perfectly creepy and atmospheric, the combination of the neoclassical inspired instrumentals with Alison Shaw's vocals is just MWAHHH so good and so deliciously eerie!!!! Hypnotic!!!!!

💜 ...An Invocation - Faetooth 💜

• doomgaze, noise rock

• fav songs: Glass, Prunes

"We wear our sins like bolts in our heads, burnt from the bottom of scolding hands"

Not necessarily a type of music that I listen to a lot but I enjoyed it!! It's verrry noisy yet has an almost ethereal quality and an amazing atmosphere, I love agressive female vocals and distortion! If you're into heavy/noisy music I recommend this, it's also a very short EP :) Faetooth are very cool and I wish them nothing but success!!

💜 From The Lion's Mouth - The Sound 💜

• post-punk, gothic rock

• fav songs: The Fire, Possession, Winning

"I was gonna drown, then I started swimming.

I was going down, then I started winning"

So effortlessly dark, so fluid so beautiful, so epic without the need for super dramatic instrumentation, such an immersive experience.... this album and band should be required listening for anyone and everyone who loves post-punk and honestly just for all fans of 80s music in general. Incredibly underrated and I'm obsessed with it, this is the kind of album that you call the best of a genre !!! I cannot stress enough how fucking incredible this album is I don't even have words to describe it

💜 Elyria - Faith and the Muse 💜

• gothic rock, ethereal wave, neofolk

• fav songs: Sparks, Heal, Interlude: Annabell

"Oh my dear, I'm always near

Oh my dear, heal."

Literally magic!!!!!!! I've been meaning to check out more of FATM for many years especially the last few considering Strange Boutique has become one of my favorite bands ever, I decided to finally dig into their music and to start with this album just because it looked promising and like my kinda thing, and I was so right!! SPARKS made me bawl my eyes out when I first listened to it just because of how big and beautiful and good it was, and despite having never heard it before, let alone as a kid, the whole album transported me right back to my childhood for some reason. It was very vivid and had me crying and goth dancing and really it's just an incredible album, I love everything that Monica Richards does, she's so talented. The album definitely has some stranger, folky moments that won't be everyone's cup of tea, I didn't mind those tracks but the more ethereal leaning ones are definitely where the album shines its brightest in my opinion, go listen to it or at LEAST go listen to the song Sparks!!!! <3

💜 Queen of Pain - Devil Doll 💜

• rockabilly, cabaret

• fav songs: Bourbon in Your Eyes, St. Christopher

"Yeah, you! I'm talkin' to you! With your fucked up hair and your bad tattoos"

(Not to be confused with the 80s band of the same name) A littttle bit too long but I enjoyed it! Again, not a type of music I listen to that much but I was so intrigued after listening to and loving Bourbon in Your Eyes that I had to check out the whole album, that song is addictive. Some of it isn't necessarily my thing/style but it's still good and I LOOOOVEE Colleen Duffy's attitude that can be felt in her voice and lyrics!!! She embodies gothabilly so well. Music for femme fatales. Fun fact: the song "Faith In Love" was featured in an episode of Buffy!

💜 Cabin Fever! - Rasputina 💜

• victoriandustrial, dark cabaret

• fav songs: Gingerbread Coffin, Hunter's Kiss

"Lay her down in her gingerbread coffin, she's so pretty all laid out in white"

I prefer their previous album "How We Quit the Forest" but this one is still a vibe, not super memorable for me personally aside from my favorite tracks which are REALLY good but it's still good overall (except for uh, that PJ Vincent Matthew Björk song...... what??) I love weird girl music

💜 Enter: The Conquering Chicken - The Gits 💜

• punk, grunge

• fav songs: Bob (Cousin O.), Seaweed

"I'm sick of the pain that you're feeling now, it's weighing you down
If I could erase it all within one dive
I wrap you precious around my soul and now I'm letting you go
As I drown these evil spirits, I penetrate the obstacles"

The Gits have become one of my favorite bands after I've been obsessively listening to their album "Frenching The Bully" for months now so I had to check out their other album ofc, Mia Zapata was an absolute powerhouse of a voice and I could listen to her all day, some greattt songs on this album!!

💜 The Hating Tree - Autumn 💜

• gothic rock

• fav songs: How It Came To Be This Way, Seconds

"I shall kill them one by one

And feed their corpses to the sun"

Sorrowful, dark and dramatic music for creepy girls, I want to eat the instrumentals aaa!! So pretty. Listening to it for the first time some of the songs kinda blended together for me, but either way the whole album is a great experience that makes you feel like you're in a cemetery in the middle of the woods on a windy night under a black and purple sky straight out of a pulp horror illustration!!! I can definitely feel this album growing on me overtime!! Also the singer has an amazing voice. ALL MY FELLOW GOTHS GO LISTEN YOU'LL LOVE IT!

If you read this far, thank you and I hope you enjoy this music if you decide to listen to some of it! <33
