Hai hai!!! Probably no one is reading this but that's ok, I just like to write for nobody lol. I wanted to start blogging about music :) so I'm going to pick a song to talk about every day. Welcome to day 1! TW for discussion of death/sickness/suicide
Today I wanted to talk about My Chemical Romance's Dead! from The Black Parade album. That album is a concept album, which is the best kind. The album deals a lot with the topic of death, and this song specifically is mainly about a character of the album called the patient, who is dying of cancer. This song is pretty mrobid, as you may have guessed. At one point, the patient is likely coming to terms/attempting to come to terms with their impending death with lines like "Oh, take me from the hospital bed [...] wouldn't it be great if we were dead?" In fact, he seems to consider taking this into his own hands with the line "wouldn't it be grand to take a pistol by the hand?" However, the patient seems to have more mixed feelings about this than he lets on as he finds out later in the song that he has only two weeks to live.
I love this song, it's quite edgy which can make it a bit hard to show to people who don't really Get It, but it's a great rock-ballad type song, in my opinion at least. One of my favorite tracks off of the black parade album.
If life ain't just a joke, than why are we laughing?
