1. Eat until your 80% full. Did you know it takes your brain 20 minutes to realize that it’s full? I recommend holding off before reaching for seconds; instead, enjoy a nice cold glass of water. The more you eat, the more your stomach stretches. This causes you to eat even more. I should also mention that drinking a glass of water 30 minutes before your meal helps fill up the stomach and reduces your calorie intake.
2. Eat frequently (5 small meals a day). Eating one meal a day will slow your metabolism down. It may even cause you to overeat from skipping meals throughout the day. Eating five meals a day will reduce your hunger, help you to be less cranky, reduce cravings and most importantly have control of your sugar levels. I eat every 2-3 hours to keep my metabolism going.
3. Say goodbye to your sides. Giving up fries, chips, and cookies were somewhat difficult in the beginning, but it wasn’t long before I began to notice my discipline pay off. One recommendation I can offer is picking veggies or salad for your sides if possible. Rule of thumb: have more vibrant color in your diet and less white, bland food. The color I’m referring to can be items such as cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, blueberries, and strawberries, etc. You want to stay away from less white food such as: bread, rice, potatoes, and pasta.
4. Stop drinking soda. This is a must to guarantee the overall success in your weight lost journey. One can of coke contains 10 spoonfuls of refined sugar. Refined sugar turns into fat. I highly recommend drinking water and green tea. Lemon water is great for flushing toxins out and green tea has been known to help reduce cholesterol.
5. Going to bed in 3 hours? Don’t eat. Did you know your metabolism is highest during the day because you are more active, taking care of business, and running errands? It is also said a night owl is more prone to weight gain. It’s important to avoid items like instant ramen and frozen pizza. I was a huge victim of ice cream and hot pockets. My recommendation is to drink a large glass of water and try to eat whole foods not processed foods.
