I've been journaling consistently for close to 3 years now and for a
while I just thought of it as venting, a way to tire myself out when I'm
stressed, but I've recently realized it's also a good outlet for when I'm being unhinged so that I don't say or do something in public that
would have social consequences.
Unfortunately I've found I can't always trust my brain to show me memories of
things that actually happened, and this can cause me to jump to incorrect conclusions which can cause me a lot of distress and confusion. A journal where I can get my
thoughts outside my head to analyze them (among other strategies) has helped me in ways I'm now beginning to appreciate.
So if you were looking for a reason to start a pen and paper journal, this is it ✌️ Go get yourself a notebook you like.

i used to keep a diary consistently and i miss it, def thinking about going back and journalling!
