made a "battle" hat + 3d photogrammetry

i put together a "battle"hat with a homemade patch, patches from etsy, pins, and bit 'n bobs. i put "battle" in quotes because there's only one band patch on the thing. but that's fine with me because i'm not trying to be a walking billboard.

i've noticed that hats are weirdly hard to photograph. they're just one of those things that doesn't look good from many angles, and i'd have to take multiple pictures to get all the sides in view.

but i figured out a solution! photogrammetry. it's basically a way of turning a jillion photos into a 3d model, and surprisingly, there are some free apps out there that do a good job at it. i used the one owned by epic games (blegh), called RealityScan.

it might take a bit for the gif to load, because it's 6.5mb, so give it some time

some of the textures aren't very sharp unfortunately, so there's a couple pins you can't make out in the gif. here's a closeup of the one that is the most blurry:

and yes, those are bones sewn on. a couple of coyote knuckles i got from a local oddity shop :)
