nobody is happy anymore?

So, the big news...Slayer are playing some festivals this year.

And Slayer fans are not happy.

This is not a shock. But before I go off, let me impart something I heard back in 2020 at the NAMM show.

A friend of mine who works at Dean Guitars (keeping his name out for privacy reasons) told me back then, "Nah, Slayer aren't done. They are doing festivals here and there but no big tours anymore." And I believed him then.

So when the news broke out about Slayer returning to do some shows, the metalheads were fuming! You'd think they would be happy. Nope. I learned something yesterday that I wish I knew years ago...

Metalheads are closed-minded assholes.

I love metal, that will never change. But it seems like the older metalheads are into gatekeeping and "death to false metal" worse than ever. I agree that reunions are a cash cow (hello Motley Crue!) but I am happy to see Slayer do some shows.

What makes this bizarre is that Slayer guitarist Kerry King has a new band/single/album. He went on and on about how he hadn't talked to bassist Tom Araya in years (and worse, how drummer Dave Lombardo is "dead to him"). Now this? Any press is good press. Musicians love to fling mud all over the place, as controversy sells. It worked for the aforementioned Crue, as well as other by-gone metal bands. When you're close to your twilight years as a performer, you try to stay relevant, I guess.

For now, those who aren't happy about Slayer doing shows, STAY HOME!

If there was no social media, these irreverent attitudes wouldn't be on full display for all to see.
