so as you know i'm a huge silent hill fan. my favorite will always be sh2 because of the personal impact it had on me and it may impact my ranking of it i fear... also i'm not including shattered memories or any of the spin-off games because they simply aren't real to me. i have yet to play the short message so i'm not gonna include it either sorry! i'll make a blog entry of my review when i do get around to it, though.
7. silent hill homecoming
this game is the definition of wasted potential. i really love alex as a character and all the cult stuff but it could've been SO much more. i really hate the inclusion of pyramid head and the sexy nurses when they have no relation to alex whatsoever. wouldn't it be so cool if the nurses looked like combat nurses to resemble alex's delusions about being a soldier? don't even get me started on the combat! this game could've been so good but unfortunately it gets the title of the worst silent hill game. it's all so very disappointing. 3/10.
6. silent hill origins
see now we're getting into the actually good games. i'm a huge defender of the western silent hill games (except homecoming sorry) and the devs really tried their best with this one. i think it ties in nicely to sh1 and works just fine as a prequel, and the gameplay is very reminiscent of the team silent games. i love how travis interacts with the other characters and i find his backstory to be pretty interesting! it's a pretty solid game it just isn't as good as the other games listed. 6/10.
5. silent hill 4: the room
this might be controversial. if you ask a bunch of people what their opinion on sh4 is, you're going to get a different answer every time. me personally? i love this game. i love henry and i love eileen and i love walter! the story is definitely one of the most intriguing out of all the silent hill games. my one problem is that the gameplay can get really tedious. i also wish henry had more of a personal relationship to walter? i think that would've elevated the game a LOT. this game gets a lot of slack for daring to be different, but i love the risks that team silent took. 7/10.
4. silent hill downpour
this game does not deserve ANY of the hate it gets. we finally have a personal, psychological horror game after the dumpster fire that is homecoming and people only hate it because it wasn't made by team silent. murphy is a compelling character and i love how devoted he is to his son. the idea of a prisoner as a silent hill protagonist is so interesting and people don't appreciate him enough! the side quests really bump this game up over sh4 for me. however, i do understand the dislike for some of the enemy designs. 8/10.
3. silent hill
the one that started it all. this is an all time classic and i have nothing negative to say about it, it's that good. a lot of people say resident evil revolutionized the survival horror genre the most, but i have to disagree. there's many more psychological survival horror games (haunting ground, rule of rose, alan wake, cry of fear, etc) and we have silent hill to thank for that. every character is oozing with personality and the town itself seems almost alive. harry will always be dad of the year! 9/10.
2. silent hill 3
actually a perfect game and i have no complaints whatsoever. every single character is written so well, every scene matters, and it's extremely immersive. cheryl is probably the most compelling protagonist in the whole series (sorry james!) and she's a shockingly realistic depiction of a teenage girl. the horror feels the most real to me despite the supernatural aspects of it. it has a beautiful ending and a great message. i just can't sing my praises to this game enough! 10/10.
1. silent hill 2
yeah we all knew sh2 would be on top LOL. there are literally no words to describe how insane this game is. 10/10.
should i do a resident evil games ranking sometime? it might be hard because there's soooo many games compared to silent hill
