traditional dress pt.2

Hi everyone! welcome to my new blog!! :)

This doll is part of a series of dolls produced in the 80s as souvenirs, each doll wears typical clothes of an italian city.

abiti-tipici-trentino

She wears an example of the traditional clothing of Trentino Alto Adige, in particular of the city of Levico Terme. Levico Terme is famous for its mountains, natural spas, its lake and its typical Christmas markets. in Trentino Alto Adige there are many austrian influences. both italian and german are spoken to the present day.

During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, peasants could only dress in clothes made at home with materials they produced such as Loden which is a wool fabric still widespread in Trentino today while the nobles used silks and velvets.

it was only under the empire of Maria Theresa of Austria that the slavery of clothing was abolished, thus freeing the lower classes from these rules on clothing. So the peasant fashion representing the area corresponding to the valley began to emerge. Each valley had a detail, an accessory that distinguished it from another.

The female traditional dress includes a white linen blouse with bobbin lace, a rigid bodice and a bib edged with colored ribbons. Long heavy skirts are worn and the hair is styled in long braids that are fixed on the head.

The Dirndl is worn every day, a practical and comfortable dress.

For the holidays, black is preferred with brightly colored aprons and a black hat with ribbons.

Traditional men's clothing is a linen shirt, a waistcoat with brass or silver buttons, loden trousers or knee-length trousers called Lederhosen supported by leather braces and an embroidered leather belt. all completed with long socks worn with leather shoes that lace up on the side.

what do you think? did you know these traditional dresses?
