Gaming with Wife

My wife is a big fan of the youtube channel "Cooking with Dog", so there's the title format for this post right there. Convenient!

I mentioned in my last missive that we had been finishing up the Borderlands franchise together by playing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. After that, at a loss for what to play together next, I decided to try and convince my wife to try one of my favorite games of all time, Remnant: From the Ashes. It is a third-person shooter that takes inspiration from the Soulsbourne games in several ways, including healing mechanics, most of the lore being present as book in the world or on item cards, dodgerolling, etc. She was hesitant at first but after the first few sessions she began demanding to play Remnant any time we were sat next to one another, and I happily obliged.

So we played the hell out of it together! She didn't 100% it or anything (and I still haven't either, but I'm also not one of those guys who likes to challenge myself in games so its whatever) but she unlocked a very respectable quantity of gear and items, and we fought almost all of the available bosses together.

Which brings us to even better news, she decided she wanted to play Remnant 2 with me as well! I had picked it up back when it released and not played it a whole lot because I got busy with other games, so I couldn't pass up this opportunity to experience most of it for the first time together with her. It has been a blast, and even better that it has multiple storylines for each world now, so there is even more replayability than the first game had. We will be knee-deep in weird guns and huge swords together for a very long time.

She has also expressed interest in trying Elden Ring together one day! It has been so much fun getting in to action games together.

In other news, Nightingale releases today! It looks really neat, and I really hope it doesn't turn out to be some half-baked early-access failure like so many of these games turn out to be. If the early reviews look promising I will definitely get it, it looks positively magical. Like Valheim + 7 Days to Die + Fable, or something.
