REPUBLICANS WANT TO END ONLINE ANONYMITY!

Some new laws in the US are going to require a government ID to access the internet and create accounts online in order to "protect children" currently they are only in Florida and Utah but this will have untold consequences on the security of everyone online if we allow these bills to pass and become standard.Β

Starting on March 1, 2024, social media companies must: Verify the age of a Utah adult seeking to maintain or open a social media account Get the consent of a parent or guardian for Utah users under age 18 Allow parents or guardians full access to their child’s account Create a default curfew setting that blocks overnight access to minor accounts (10:30 pm to 6:30 am) which parents can adjust Protect minor accounts from unapproved direct messaging Block minor accounts from search results

If you live in the US and NOT Utah or Florida please add to your message:

"I may not be a resident of the affected state but I am concerned about this bill setting a precedent in this country that would violate the privacy and safety of all it's citizens."Β

I'm not an expert at these things but I really hope I can help kill these awful bills! Please share my posts on Twitter and Tumblr if you can!

Aren’t most Republicans conspiracy theorists? And aren’t most conspiracy theorists wary of being monitored by intelligence agencies? They complain about getting spied on and then they support laws that make it legal to spy on people. What hypocrites!

i think this is quite reasonable. small children on the internet are a big problem, especially with all of the sexual content and brainrot skibidi toilet baby gronk fanum tax gyatt everywhere. if this law had existed when i was a little kid, i would have been way luckier than i was. plus, social media knows pretty much everything about us anyways. most of us post literally our entire lives on there, not to mention advertisers gathering all of our viewing data to sell to us. this law would fix a lot of problems with children seeing inappropriate, mind-altering content on the internet. i know from experience, it was the worst thing to happen to me. it ruined my life. i dont want it to ruin anyone else's. i dont trust the government, but i definitely trust the internet less.
