i decided to blog today because i think it should be known how many flaws there are with today's school system. i am an 8th-grade student that promotes in May, as of right now i have 5 periods with my elective class being before my 1st period (also my homeroom). my schedule is 8:10 the gate opens, 8:15-30 breakfast, 8:45-9:45 is electives, 9:50-10:45 1st hour, 10:50-11:45 2nd, 11:45-12:25 lunch and recess, 12:30-1:25 3rd, 1:30-2:25 4th, and 2:30- 3:25 5th. my day ends at 3:30. In 2 out of my 5 classes, I am actually being taught while in the other 3, we just come in log onto the computer, and do whatever they assign us. In my 1st and 4th hours, I actually feel like a student because im not just being told orders, im being instructed on how to do something instead of only being talked to if I don't understand something. you would think it is easier doing most of the work on the computer but it's really not. my 2nd period teacher assigns 5 assignments all due on Friday with no instructions and just sits at their desk doing whatever. students are failing and burning out quicker because they are overwhelmed with how much work is being assigned or they simply do not understand what they are supposed to do because they aren't being taught, instructed, talked to, or given any helpful feedback.We are in hell.
