unpopular opinion: being uppity about the genre of music the people around you listen to is anti-punk

if you're getting angrier about the fact that someone listens to cruel summer than about the human rights that are being stripped from people it doesn't make you punk. you're not cool because you know 50 different sub-genres for the kind of rock you listen to. someone can listen to mother mother and tally hall and lemon demon and still form meaningful opinions and judging someone?? for the music they listen to?? literally goes against the "fuck the machine do what you want" ideology. liking or not liking taylor swift is not the line in between being a fascist and not. you can debate with someone on what you like and dislike about the music they listen to but once it starts to stray into the conversation of punk i get pissed.

"heh u listen to pop punk? isn't pop anti-punk?" shut up. if you're mad about pop punk and think it sounds like shit it's because that's the point. it's meant to piss off the generation before you. it's meant to be different. get real
