Maybe this one is kinda special to me becuz it's the first one I saw but I also think I would've preferred it anyway. I love xie lians character, he reminds me of the stereotypical anime protagonist except if they were more competent in what they did when we first meet them and a lot less nervous about everything. I don't see characters like him as the mc like at all so that's cool

Another thing I LOVE is Hua cheng's character. He looks and acts like the stereotypical strong, confident, manly love interest and in some ways he is that. But he's also insecure about his looks and whether or not he deserves xie Lian, I love when characters have insecurities and get shy like he does, especially when they're able to act confident all the time. Once again he's a subversion of the stereotypical manly love interest to the weak and fragile lead, both he and xie Lian are. I feel like it's actually important to do that and make him more insecure, it kinda fits with his whole backstory and shows the genuine affects of what he went through which makes his struggle so much more real than if he just got over it and kept going after xie Lian. And he is so respectful in the novel, the manhua is a whole other thing I'll probably write about later, the books show that he's afraid to even touch xie Lian in case his touch would be uncomfortable and he always asks what xie Lian wants and make sure he's ok with everything. I think we should have more characters like him in romance becuz omg I read a straight romance and the guy was the worst person and the girl still fell in love like wtf. Hua Cheng is just a good love interest

And ofc shi Qingxuan and he xuan, they could get their own novel and I'd read it. Pei ming is so funny and I love seeing him and the rain master interact. Mu qing is honestly relatable and him and feng xin are like amazing together. All the other side characters are really well thought out and I love the way not a single one of the villains is one off, the ghost bride comes back later, banyue comes back, all the enemies from earlier on are reused and not replaced and I fucking love that

Wei wuxian is a funny protagonist honestly, I love how spontaneous he is and I think he definitely gives off some more modern day vibes with how reckless he is and how many jokes he makes even while they're all in danger. And ofc anytime he sees dogs is both kinda sad when u think about why he doesn't like them and just funny becuz of how strong he is yet he's running away. His character is soo complex becuz he acts like he doesn't really care about anything really, not bothering to study and brushing his friends off when they show concern about things, overall having an easy going attitude in front of others, but then he decided to try and save innocents from the wen clan and took that srsly. That showed a whole different side to his personality

Lan wanji is kinda relatable to (I think I just kin half of them) and it's a really cool combo becuz he doesn't speak much and he is very strict on rules, I bet writing a character like that would be hard, trying to figure out what their limits would be and how they would struggle when they had to finally break some rules. It was definitely done well in MDZS and I enjoy his character just as much. I think atp many ppl have flagged him as autistic coded and I agree, I could make a whole post about autistic mxtx characters. It's really interesting to see someone like him take interest in someone like Wei wuxian and I think there was almost some jealousy over his freedom and lack of care at one point that I would love to look into, so he is also really well thought out

The juniors make the whole thing better with their silly little experiences and insight, and the fact they have to be looked after for a large part of the book and Wei wuxian becomes a teacher despite not knowing how to teach. Also this is probably one of the few books that makes me actually hate a character, I'm sorry ik why he is the way he is but I hate Liang Chiang soo much just becuz he annoys me. His character is interesting but I also don't like characters like that, I do like the nei clan tho, mainly nei huaisong but that's just personal preference. This one had another amazing plot and I didn't find it too angsty at all, tho I also didnt find tgcf angsty either

I notice it's gone from newest to oldest but I didn't really mind the writing style. 

Yk I was told this was a comedy or at least meant to be funnier than the others but I found it the angstiest and that's becuz I cannot stand when two characters have so much tension and miscommunication and all they have to do is talk to fix it but they're both too scared or angry to actually do anything and they just keep fighting over and over again and making things worse. I love that type of angst and it was done so well in this and it hurt the most to read

I forgot how to spell the protagonists name properly so I'm gonna try not to say it too much but he was actually really funny. I could definitely sense he was a very anxious and kinda not adventurous type, even if a lot of what he said in his mind seemed to protray him like that and it wasn't outright obvious, looking at some of his actions he definitely wasn't into thrilling or exciting things which makes sense considering he spent ages in his room reading a shitty web novel it fits him really well. he seemed to like doing safe things and doing things properly, avoiding harm as much as possible. And I honestly cannot tell how straight or gay he is since he was straight and never admitted to being gay, I think that's one of the reasons I don't like it, becuz he never said much about enjoying it. Like obviously they fucked multiple times and he found luo binge hot but he never mentioned enjoying the sex, and yeah it did hurt but we didn't even really see much excitement for any of it and I think that made me like it less

Luo binge, I like him, maybe a few yrs ago he would've been my fav love interest just becuz of how batshit insane he can be but now I don't really care for his character. It would've been super cool if he was smart and I would've liked him more but I also see the appeal in him kinda only caring about his shizun and doing anything for him. He was probably smart in the original pidw and was just made dumb when he became gay which I find really entertaining. I do love the craziness and the violence of his character, the sadism and obsession that's similar to Hua cheng's but far more violent, with him doing things that other saw as horrible and disgusting, like keeping his shizun's corpse with him. Definitely insane, which is lovely
