i’ve learned a lot from looking for bones
typically, animals die next to trees
or streams
their bodies are ravaged by bugs,
and sometimes other animals
but i wonder, why ?
and i suppose i could look it up
but it feels more poetic to believe that they know their impact.
that the nourishment concealed inside the wreckage will feed the trees,
or that the water will carry it to the roots that need it
if i were free to i would want that too.
humans make it impossible,
because to die in a forest is to die alone
and that is simply unnacceptable
rather than beautiful .
your body is a nuisance,
rather than food for the earth.
i would ask to be left to be scavenged ,
to feed the plants that we have overtaken and pushed away,
but i would not be allowed
because humans refuse true nature
even in death.
