CLASSPECT ANALYSIS: the Prince of Mind

Hi everyone! New classpect analysis. Sorry for none yesterday, I literally lost my entire post before it was posted and it didn't save anywhere. A little grumpy about that but, it doesn't really matter. After this comes the Heir of Doom! Enjoy.

The Aspect: Mind

Mind is a simple aspect at first. Mind players thrive on logic, rationality, and a lack of strong emotion. Terezi Pyrope, the Seer of Mind, was incredibly logical and calculating, utilizing her talents to help her team win Sgrub. Dirk Strider, the Prince of Heart (Princes embody their opposing aspect), was similarly rational and logical, showing very little emotion and attempting to never act upon just emotion.

However, Mind players often have moments of letting everything go; to be a Mind player means you have to be constantly serious, which is taxing sometimes. Terezi is the most egregious example of this: despite being Mind-bound, she's incredibly erratic at times and has a very snarky attitude. These outbursts are common but short-lived for the Mind-bound, leading to Mind being a pretty stressful aspect to have.

The Class: The Prince

The Prince, as we see with Dirk Strider, embodies the opposite of their aspect. Note that embodying is inherently different than simply showing it. A Prince of any aspect outwardly expresses the opposite of their aspect, and yet they become a symbol of their aspect. Dirk, despite being a Prince of Heart, expresses himself fully as if he'd be a Mind player. However, Dirk later in the story becomes a symbol of emotion and trauma. This strange dichotomy is essential to the Prince.

The Prince is described as "one who destroys (via) their aspect". Eridan Ampora, the Prince of Hope, actively destroyed anyone's hope that the game would be winnable. (Notice how Eridan shows himself as if he's Doom?) Dirk Strider destroyed his own emotions in order to become a better player for his teammates. Princes are destructive and are a strange mythological role, but nonetheless one that can be incredibly useful to the session if used correctly and handled accordingly. A Prince needs to learn to "rule over" their aspect and finally control it in order to not destroy the session.

The Classpect: The Prince of Mind

The Prince of Mind would be incredibly emotional. Almost like an opposite Dirk, the Prince of Mind would be a sort of emotional wreck, letting themselves be guided almost entirely by their emotions. With this neuroticism, they might begin to dismantle the structure of their team (or perhaps even the game itself). However, at times, the Prince of Mind would be able become incredibly focused and serious, helping their team towards victory. Keep in mind, however, that the Prince of Mind's volatile state can become even more volatile with a Mind players' moments of strong emotions; the Prince of Mind is definitely a person to watch out for.

As the Prince becomes the symbol of their aspect, they would become the primary planner of their session. Despite being so emotional, it would seem that their choices and actions are always right purely by chance. They would become the person to go to to ask for advice on what to do if players are stuck. Even though they're so volatile, they become the most rational person in the session without even knowing.

When making a fan-character that's a Prince of Mind, they would probably be very sentimental; they'd send a shower of gifts to their friends on holidays, would always want to share festivities, and would collect trinkets from their friends to keep. Although not much physically can represent the Prince of Mind, they might be heavily interested in a variety of intellectual topics, which would seem to go against their emotional nature.

My thoughts?

I liked this! The Prince of Mind is a nice aspect to analyze and look through. Princes are super, super fun because they're the rule breakers (same for their counterpart, the Bard)! Overall, characters with this classpect have the potential to be incredibly, incredibly important for their session and are invaluable to have. Thanks Pesterchum Republic for the suggestion!
