What I read in January (2024)

I ended up reading 5 books in January, and now I'm 3 books ahead of my schedule for this year!!! The goal is to read 50 books this year, since last year I only read 24! I'll be keeping track of my books through my Goodreads, and sharing my more detailed thoughts on Spacehey and Youtube/Tiktok!

January books:

1) Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde

Rating: 2.5/5

TLDR: Just take the time to read other, more interesting, gothic novels. I recommend The Picture of Dorian Gray.

2) The Slob

Rating: 3/5

TLDR: Really nasty, but that's the point of splatterpunk. Not the best, not the worst. The characters felt really flat. Read if you want to feel sick. Look up the TWs.

3) Tender is the Flesh

Rating: 5/5

TLDR: AMAZING! One of my new all time favorites. Fun to read. Really good pacing. It was hard to put it down but made me feel sick reading it.

4) White Teeth

Rating: 1/5

TLDR: Character's are unlikable and became more like caricatures by the end of the novel. No real plot just random things happening, but I didn't care about the things because I didn't like the characters. Won't read anything by this author again (unless I'm assigned something for uni)

5) Carmilla

Rating: 5/5

TLDR: Lesbian vampire! A very quick read. My edition also had really gorgeous art included! Would absolutely recommend to anyone who likes Dracula or other gothic lit.
