hiiiiii first blog post..... taps mic has anyone read any baudelaire? im reading les fleurs du mal and i like it quite a lot, he combines obscene love and mournful lust with a tortured outlook on the world that created a lot of interesting poetry. imo knowing the history behind books, poems, and art makes them much much more enjoyable - reading about jeanne duval (an actress, the subject of manyyyy poems) and charles baudelaire lends a new weight to much of the work. the edition i bought has a timeline of baudelaire's life along with an interesting little foreword from the translator (richard howard version!), which i liked a lot
i particularly liked 'carrion' and 'against her levity' so far! i can tell i have a preference for the darker pieces.

it defined how i see art.... flowers of evil the beauty is in the name man. At the time it was such a transgressive work. Even today some of those poems give me chills. Baudelaire was such a rebel strolling down the streets of Paris with his mulatto girlfriend at his side, the stench of liquor hot off his breath, and his slick greased down hair. Just a fucking hedonistic degenerate at heart. I don't think people will admit it but he got human nature down to a T. It's one of my favorite books ever and I'm excited for you to finish it.
