Fandom spaces are suffocating

ok, this is gonna be a bit of a rant, but this is actually a topic ive always thought about. and the tittle sounds a bit....ehhhh. fandom spaces arent completely suffocating, but tiktok ones are, and its been getting to me for about a year now and i need to rant about it somehwere publicly so!!

i was scrolling on tiktok and i saw a video with the text "'my personal redesign+headcanons!' and its full of mischaracterization" or smthn like that. and i just wanna say this now, im not sying that headcanons and redesigns cant mischaracterize a character (even tho i feel like in terms of redesign, it doesnt matter, its called a redesign for a reason?? idk, correct me if im wrong lol). i know characters can be falsley interrpreted, and i know people can be upset about it. cool. my problem is with pretty much every. single. comment.

no joke, i open the comments and all it is is people just shitting on other PERSONAL redesigns becuase they dont fit whatever they think a redisign should have. i saw comments complining bout redisigns that had "too little", redisigns that has "too much", redesigns that add things, ones that take things away. fucking everything. "liteally all they did was make the hair fluffy" "at this point just make them an oc" blah blah blah. genuinly reading those comments was so brainrotting. i think what i hated the most about them is how policing they were. they were adding these stupid rules to personal redesigning and "human interpretations" (yea there was alot of mlp talk, shocker. i might refrence some here lol), as if theres a supposed to be a specific way to do those things when there fucking. isnt. (we're not talking about serious character designs btw. these werent things for a portfolio or for a school or smthn, just shit people do for fun, so there really isnt)

"whyd they make rainbowdash scene shes more like adam sandler core" fucking news flash, that shit is also a headcanon. is equestria girls rd dripped down in adam sandler cothing?? no, i didnt think so (and im using equestrial girls rd here since its the closest thing to an actually canon rd human design!!) 

"fluttershy wouldnt wear coquette she listens to metal!!" since when the fuck has what you listened to ever determined what you wear. you sound dumb. and there were so many more that i cant really name because they didnt make me as upset and didnt seem as stupid to me as these two did. i think what really made me mad, was i saw a comment like "i just redesigned these characters, can someone check them for me to see if im doing any of these things". and it made me so sad becuase i hate when people feel like they need to follow any set of rules when it comes to any kind of creativity for themselves. and i get that people can ask for critisism, thats totally ok and fine, i just dont want people to wrack their brain trying to create a redesign thats good enough for others to look at. idk. i hope you get what i mean. its literally just the mary sue thing again. it stops becoming fun because youve made it, you like it, but now you have to think about the other people who might think its "too much" or "too little" when it doesnt. fucking. matter

the op was in the comments talking about how in chracter design, certain things mean something so you cant just take them out, and how you cant just add shit, as if they were looking and professional portfolios or some shit (they had opened their comments to bigotry too, but thats not entirely their fault so whatever). anyway, i love complex and simple redesigns, because i enjoy whimsical fun. 

this isnt the first time ive felt this way about fandoms obviously. one of my biggest grips with the fnaf fandom was just how gatekeepy everyone is. you say you like security breach so you must be a new fan and burned at the stake. you dont know all the lore so you must be a fake fan and burned at the stake. you make fnaf hoodies nd dance in them so you must be a trend hopper and burned at the fucking stake i mean holy shit, im sorry but fnaf just isnt as small and was never as small as you thought it was. nothing makes someone any more or less of a fan and even if they are "less of a fan" that shit doesnt matter. go out, have fun, kindly engange with the community and have a good fucking time.

idk, this rant ws all over the place so depending on if anyone sees this i doubt ill keep it up for long :PPP create what you want, do what you want, have fun and be nice to eachother for 5 minutes at least. please or else i fear ill explode 

disclaimer: if i didnt say this before, i am in no way saying people cant have opinions of others rededigns when they see them. thats ok, you do you. i just dont like that ppl are trying to police what makes a good redesign thats just for good fun. shit like that takes the fun out of creating and i hate it.
