Books I've read recently with reviews!!!

So with my TickTick I've been reading every day and it's helped sooo much. I started the app at the end of the year last year and I've already gotten through three books and I'm on my fourth. Here are the books I've read, a quick summary with no spoilers, and what I thought of them.

Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke(Eric LaRocca)

Summary: This book has three separate stories within it; the first story is about a woman buying an apple peeler in a gay internet chat room. Second story is about a couple who are caretakers of a hotel on an island. Third story is about a guy and his neighbor.

What I thought: This one is super hard to judge. I enjoyed how wild the book was, but also I kind of hated how wild it was. It felt like the author was trying way too hard to put the craziest stuff in the stories. Although that's the case, it did keep my attention because I was so interested in what was going to happen even though I felt like the writing wasn't that great.

Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke

The Ritual(Adam Nevill)

Summary: This book is about four friends reuniting and going on a camping trip through the Scandinavian wilderness. Things end up going off the rails and they have to try and make it through the trip.

What I thought: I really liked the book. The book was Horror themed, and I really liked that. Especially with the camping aspect, it made the book more creepy. The book was good about keeping my attention, but I definitely got frustrated with the characters. I think that was almost the point though. Just like in scary movies you get angry at the characters for doing stupid things that you know are going to make matters worse in the end.

The Ritual

The Long Way Home(Ryan Van Duzer)

Summary: This is a nonfiction book about the authors' 4,000 mile bicycle journey from Honduras to Boulder, Colorado.

What I thought: This book so far has been my favorite book out of all the books I've read so far. It was super fun to read about the highs and lows of 4,000 mile bike ride. He was really good about telling the stories of meeting new people and other experiences he had. I think part of why I really liked the book was because I enjoy camping and cycling, and this was basically what the book was about. Also, the author did do a lot of planning prior to starting the journey, but also, there was a lot of 'we'll figure out where I'll sleep when I get to the next town'. I'm not that way, so it was fun to hear a story where someone is like that. This book also got me super pumped for riding this summer.

The current book I'm on is called "Things We Do in the Dark" by Jennifer Hillier. So far it's very interesting, so I'm excited to get into it. 😎
