So, Hazbin Hotel season 1 is fully out (has been for a hot minute) and I wanna talk about it. Specifically, I wanna talk about the things I really like about it--later on I wanna compare it to Helluva Boss and give my opinions on that by comparison. So let's get started, shall we?
First thing I wanna bring up is the cast. They're absolutely amazing, every single one of them. It's sad that the original cast is gone--and it's kinda fucked up that they didn't get invited to the premier--but that's just how it is. The new cast is full of so much talent that there's not much else I can say about them. The only vague problem I have is how drastically different Vaggie's singing tone is compared to how she sounds when talking, but that's just a personal thing. Other than that, the voice acting and songs are utterly perfect.
Speaking of songs, I wanna talk about those too! My favorite is "More Than Anything" (it literally made me fucking cry it's so good). It's such a beautiful song, and Jeremy Jordan does SUCH an amazing job as Lucifer omfg. Though, every time I hear him singing I can't help but think of Light fuckin Yagami--Jeremy Jordan played Light in the Death Note musical, after all. And the high notes in Charlie's parts are so pretty it's actually insane. Not to mention how fucking sad the song is. Luficer is just trying to keep his daughter safe from these heavenly pricks that shut down everything he wanted to do before, but Charlie wants to keep trying because she knows that people can change (which even gets proved later on with both Angel and Pentious). It's emotional as shit and I wasn't ready T-T
Moving on to my second favorite song: Poison. Oh boy, there's a lot to unpack with this one. The song's style is a lot like Addict, which I love. Addict is amazing, and I'm glad they did something similar for Poison. I really enjoy how the lyrics gradually get darker throughout the song, unlike how Addict kind of threw sadder lyrics at you in the very end of the VIP version. It starts off brighter, and slowly leans more into the fact that Angel feels like he's dying (again). Going from "Every night I'm living like there's no tomorrow" to "Wish I had something to live for tomorrow" is a pretty drastic switch, but the lyrics throughout the rest of the song close the gap in a way that feels like a natural descent into acknowledging that you're being hurt by your own bad choices. The song is even better when you pair it with Angel pulling a big "fuck you" to Valentino when he's fucking with his besties. Watching him lose his fear of Val in that moment for the sake of keeping his friends safe is satisfying as hell.
Gd I've only talked about two songs pm and this is already kinda long. I'll pick this up later when I'm not in the middle of Spanish class lol
