music player skinning

Does anyone remember the music player skins? you know, the visual edits people used to make with their music players, especially on winamp.

now i wonder if i could download winamp and then make a skin of my own, seeing multiple examples of popular skins made me inspired to make my own visual ideas.

now according to my research winamp still exists and can be downloaded in softonic, but i don't really trust it, my laptop is already slow as shit, and softonic is like the babydaddy for viruses

does anyone have any remembering of this tradition? do you know how to make skins or how to download it safely?
