Gothic Lolita

Gothic Lolita, also known as Goth Lolita, and ゴスロリ.

Gothic Lolita emerged independently from the Visual Kei era in the '90s. The early adopters, known as Trans Gals and fans of the music label "Trans Records," laid the foundations for Gothic Lolita. However, the fashion didn't receive a formal name until Mana described it as "Gothic & Lolita."

Gothic Lolita Music

Gothic Lolita is not primarily associated with music, but there are still some music creators within the Gothic Lolita scene.

How to be Gothic Lolita

Colors

Across almost all Gothic subtypes, dark colors are always the go-to, including dark blues and purples, often paired with white or grey accents.

Lifestyle

Good posture is crucial for the clothing to look its best. It's beneficial to practice various arts and skills, such as cooking, painting, or collecting antiques.

Clothing

Like many fashions, Gothic Lolita can be DIY or thrifted. However, for those who prefer ready-made options, there are stores to purchase Gothic Lolita clothing from, such as 42lolita, Lolita Show, Tragic Beautiful, Demonia, and Rebels Market.

Makeup and Hairstyle

Most hairstyles are suitable for Lolita fashion, but the most iconic one would be sausage curls. Practice pairing it with dark lipstick, and either a smokey or defined eye look with a light blush. It's worth mentioning that dramatic makeup also complements Gothic Lolita style.
