Trad Goth started alongside the original music genre in the late '70s and early '80s. The name 'Traditional Goth' comes from the classic and original aesthetics of Goth. Trad Goths are associated with goth music genres, including but not limited to Goth rock, Darkwave, Minimalwave, Gothic metal, and Ethereal wave.

The Traditional Goth style was primarily founded in the United Kingdom. Other places where Traditional Goth was gaining traction included Germany, America, etc.
