thriller xenofic concepts

i forget about this site but i like that its lowkey and i can come back anytime <3 i gotta start logging my stuffs here. anywayss

paranormal thriller but its from the perspective of the animals who perceive the spirit world

i started putting this concept together the other day and im really fixated on it already, since its a way for me to engage with my interests without relying on preexisting media :33
really ive just been referring to it as "the paranormal thriller" and i hope as i crank out the art, a working title will come to me.

the first visuals i made:
two kittys

first one is labelled "crack" and second is labelled "reach" - which i think are good working names for these two characters.
crack plays off the trope of human characters in fiction being the ones to do violent things, whether or not theyre affected by anything supernatural at all. i had this mental image of a feline guy who doesnt even care about the deeper story, whos an obstacle because hes just someone who hurts others.
reach is not nearly as villainous, just a cat entangled with a human spirit. maybe they dont know its happening at all, maybe its only seen by whos behind the camera here.

crack
reach

the second visuals i made:
ick
ick2

labelled "cats dont like me"
i had wanted to explore perception, and how the visuals would be incredibly influenced by who sees what. heres how people see cats, how they see themselves, and how cats see through the veil. even a lit bit of how the ghoulies would look i guess !!
also ofc as i was drawing the ghoulie, i started building a story about this adult man who was responsible for the drowning of a girl when he was a teenager. she could be following him maliciously or it could be his guilt.
also i had been putting burn layers over these to enhance the shadows and it made his face shading strange. oops

so when it comes to the actual substance of the story heres what ive got. the ghouls are explicitly connected to humanity, they arent ambiguous creatures. they could be demonic but thats as far as ill stretch. the main perspective has to be from cats, thats just my personal touch, but im sure there would be other animals involved. this is really relying on the trope of cats seeing ghosts, but theres also often stories involving birds and dogs so they could be a tool too.
as for their intelligence and behavior, i think its going to be warrior cats rules, sorry. they can think and use words, but their instincts are still feline. pure animal view really wouldnt work with my ideas, but its no fun removing all the feline charm.

thought collection:
ive spent years trying to hammer out this uncannily human element to my felines, but here it really works well, when we need to see their true feelings and being uncannily human isnt a problem !
i have no clue what my goal with this is. ive thought about writing, about comics, and even about a game since i own rpgmaker. i guess theres nothing stopping me from trying a little bit of everything.
with the setting, i really think it has to be urban. when i first started brainstorming i thought "wouldnt it be cool if it was a historical noir detective story but viewed by street cats?" and then thought about how much id have to learn about history for it to be interesting and quickly ditched it. currently considering early 2000s. also america for simplicity.
