I am especially passionate about community service and philanthropy. My time as founder of a nonprofit was especially life-changing and pivotal to molding the young woman I am today. To me, community service is the ability to spread kindness and love through action. When I was 14, I created a nonprofit, Deaf Ally, to sell my artwork and contribute 100% of the profit towards fundraising for the donation of clear face masks that would allow Deaf people to read others’ lips and facial expressions. I ultimately raised over $2,500 and donated over 500 clear masks to local Deaf schools, doctor’s offices, and hundreds of people across the country. Throughout my time as a young adult, I have been able to donate to San Antonio charities such as Morgan’s Wonderland, Silver & Black Give Back, S.A. Food Bank, and more.
Ultimately, it is my goal to expand my future e-commerce business into a local franchise with brick-and-mortar stores (part cafe, part bookstore). I aspire to use these spaces to promote a safe atmosphere for the community and offer free workshops that give less privileged people the opportunity to climb the social ladder.
My service to the community has instilled me with great empathy for others. It has made me look for the potential in every human and the happiness you can only receive in giving to others. Being involved in philanthropic missions has restored my faith in humanity, and has made me an overall optimistic person with a realistic understanding of the challenges in life.
